California-Based Aftermarket Auto Company Chooses Indiana for First Midwest Operations

“Indiana’s nationally-ranked business climate continues to attract new companies to the Hoosier State,” said Governor Mike Pence. “Our central location is ideal for logistics firms and distribution centers, and Indiana’s low tax rates, reduced regulations and sizable workforce assure companies like Spyder Auto that Indiana is a state that works for business.” 

The California-based company will invest $5.16 million to purchase and renovate a previously vacant building at 1570 Perry Road in Plainfield to establish a logistics and distribution center. The 109,000-square-foot facility will be Spyder Auto’s first location outside California, enabling the company to grow its sales beyond the western United States. 

Spyder Auto, which sells and distributes aftermarket lighting, tuning and styling auto parts, expects to begin construction in July. The company will start hiring for warehouse positions next month. 

“We are excited to be expanding into Plainfield and look forward to the opportunities this region has to offer,” said Nelson Li, president of Spyder Auto. “We are now able to deliver a larger variety of products faster and more efficiently, servicing all areas in the continental United States within two to three business days.”

Headquartered in City of Industry, California, Spyder Auto has been serving the auto industry for nearly a decade. A leading provider of aftermarket products, the company specializes in customized fog lights, tail lights, headlights and other auto accessories.

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered Sonic Lighting (dba Spyder Auto) up to $600,000 in conditional tax credits based on the company’s job creation plans. These tax credits are performance-based, meaning until Hoosiers are hired, the company is not eligible to claim incentives. The town of Plainfield is considering additional incentives at the request of the Hendricks County Economic Development Partnership.

By purchasing and renovating the former Fundex headquarters, Spyder gains an excellent facility that will serve it well as it grows its business.”
