Council’s mission:
To provide leadership for the successful creation, growth, development and retention of Hispanic businesses in the greater Indianapolis area.

In August of 2005, the Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce and the Indianapolis Hispanic Chamber of Commerce announced a merger of both organizations, creating a Hispanic Business Council (HBC) within the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce structure.

The two chambers entered into this agreement in an attempt to maximize the resources of both organizations. Organization leaders felt that using the existing infrastructure of the Indianapolis Chamber will allow for a greater focus on strategic and programmatic activities and that leveraging the Indianapolis Chamber’s existing relationships will help build the Hispanic business community.

“The Indianapolis Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is excited to join forces with such a successful, long-standing organization,” said Roberto Curci, Ph.D., former Indianapolis Hispanic Chamber of Commerce president. “We are confident that this strategic re-alignment will strengthen the Hispanic business community and give Hispanic business owners access to more resources and opportunities for growth.”

The council’s mission mirrors the former Hispanic Chamber’s mission: to provide leadership for the successful creation, retention, growth and development of Hispanic businesses in the greater Indianapolis area.

“The Chamber is extremely excited to welcome the Hispanic Chamber leaders and their members into the Indianapolis Chamber family,” said Gene Zink, chairman of the Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce at the time of the merger. “Leaders from both organizations worked hard to determine what would be best for Indianapolis businesses, and I am confident that the Indianapolis Chamber’s new Hispanic Business Council will only make the Indianapolis business community stronger.”

HBC members were drawn from the former board of the Hispanic Chamber or others interested in the mission of the council. The HBC joins five other councils currently operating under the Indianapolis Chamber: Education Council, Fiscal Policy Council, Economic Growth Council, Membership/Marketing Council and ChamberAction.
